Fabric Monde, a social enterprise that connects rural handcraft and handloom producers to large fashion brands, has recently bagged an order of 20,000 shirts from TrueBlue, a brand promoted by Sachin Tendulkar, for creating a new range of garments made from sustainable and handloom fabric. Around 30 percent of the supply of the fabric to TrueBlue is expected to be from craftsmen in Rajasthan, thereby offering improved livelihood opportunities for the artisans and also building and expanding their production capacities.
Fabric Monde was supported with funding and incubation support by Jaipur based incubator Startup Oasis under the INVENT Program. The INVENT Program is a joint program of DFID, UK Government, Technology Development Board, Department of Science and Technology and Villgro. Under the program, Startup Oasis has already funded more than 25 such high impact social enterprises from Rajasthan and other low income states of India. As part of the program, Startup Oasis has also assisted Fabric Monde to deepen its supply chain in Rajasthan and connected the startup to potential angel investors from the state.
As per the founder of Fabric Monde, Jyothirmayi Dakkumallu, an IIM Lucknow graduate herself, “this initiative with Trueblue is an effort towards enabling the indigenous textiles of Rajasthan, which are also sustainable and creates lesser carbon foot print overall for the production of textiles, to find their way to the mainstream global fashion market.
