December ,2019: Dr Ashu Abhishek, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology of Fortis Hospital Gurugram ran 210 kms in 3 days from Gurugram to Jaipur to raise awareness on Breast & Gynae Cancers.
 
He along with the group ‘Maston Ka Jhund’ comprising of total 10 runners completed 210 kms each, in total covering an astounding 2,100 kms as a part of the ‘Pink Purple Run’ which was started from Gurugram on the 7th of December 2019 and ended at Jaipur today with stop made at Neemrana and Shahpura.
 
On completing the run, Dr. Ashu Abhishek was joined by Dr Rama Joshi, and Dr Niranjan Naik, Fortis Hospital Gurugram at Jaipur, where they conducted open sessions on the need for healthier lifestyle and the importance of early and timely diagnosis in women cancers.
 
Dr Ashu Abhishek, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology, Fortis Hospital, Gurugram, who led the group of runners in the Pink Purple Marathon said, “We ran with the objective of showing our support to women everywhere, to let them know that there are preventive steps that can be taken, to reinforce that regular screenings, testing and checkups are the foundation of better health. We ran through the countryside where the awareness about possibility of cancer treatment needed a further push and during our stops in between, we interacted with people and appraised them about need to live a healthier life, good dietary practice, need for physical exercise and proper sleep. We are glad to be a part of this Nobel initiative and our group hopes that this run will encourage youngsters to pick up physical sports which will help in ensuring positivity and confidence.”  
 
“Fortis Cancer Institute of Fortis Hospital, Gurugram organized an awareness campaign for women cancer in a unique way with a Pink purple Walkathon which was flagged off from Fortis Gurugram by Gynae cancer survivors of 17 years. 1200 people participated in the walkathon with a cause to raise awareness on women cancers. The pink Purple Run was started with the aim of creating awareness on women cancers from Gurugram to Jaipur and on way had women cancer awareness activity at Shahpura to create awareness amongst  Rural  women.” Said Dr Rama Joshi, Director & Head, Gynecology Oncology, FMRI.
 
 
She said, “Pink Purple Run concluded at Jaipur with a message of prevention, early detection and cure for women cancers. Vaccinate young girls, screen mothers and let us make India free of cervical cancer. “
 
According to the WHO, Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer in women worldwide and is increasing particularly in developing countries where most cases are diagnosed in late stages. It contributed to 25.4% of the total number of new cases diagnosed in 2018.
