Cairn Oil & Gas, Vedanta Ltd., India’s largest private sector Oil and Gas Company, has achieved a landmark safety milestone of 12 million LTI (Lost Time Injury) free man-hours in its operations at Ravva offshore oil fields in Andhra Pradesh. The milestone relates to over six years of incident-free operations in challenging conditions on the east coast of India where operations are spread across onshore and offshore facilities.

This achievement is even more remarkable considering the ongoing activities for enhancing oil production and upkeep of facilities such as drilling campaigns, plant shutdown and regular maintenance, key projects like gas lift booster compressor and several others. Additionally, with a new set of challenges arising from COVID-19 pandemic, the onsite teams have continuously adapted and ensured a high level of operational safety through continued vigilance.

Speaking about the milestone, Oscar Quintero, COO, Cairn Oil & Gas, Vedanta Ltd., said, “We strongly believe that this achievement is a result of safe work culture based on teamwork, strong management to support HSE, personal ownership on safety including our partners combined with our ‘can-do’ spirit towards our ‘Only Safe Production’ goal. We are proud of our teams that have helped in realising the Vedanta Group’s vision of Zero Harm Zero Waste Zero Discharge and we look forward to many such milestones in the future.”

Cairn has also undertaken several initiatives to improve the lives of people and communities in the region around Ravva. Recently, Cairn helped in the installation of 150 solar LED street lights in the region to support the local community. The initiative will solve the problem of inadequate lighting due to power cuts and malfunction during the monsoon season while also result in savings for the local panchayat.

Since the operations are in a remote rural area, several facilities such as healthcare, fire safety are not readily available to people in the region. Cairn helps in the on-ground deployment of a fire brigade that has been called into action several times to help in rescue operations.

Cairn also supports the local communities by providing healthcare services through a 24x7 Primary Health Centre (PHC) staffed with 11 medical professionals and two fully-equipped ambulances to provide critical and emergency care to patients. The PHC caters to a population of approximately 23,000 across five villages in the region. In the last three months, the PHC has catered to over 4300 out-patients and conducted 778 lab tests. Cairn has also actively contributed in spreading awareness about the COVID-19 pandemic amongst people, providing relief material such as dry provisions for needy families, masks, sanitisers and soaps to 6000 people in the region.
