The Indian Society for Inborn Errors of Metabolism
(ISIEM) proudly announces its highly anticipated National Conference on Inborn
Errors of Metabolism (ISIEM 2024), scheduled from September 20-22, 2024,
at the Rajasthan International Centre, Jaipur. This event will serve as a
crucial platform for experts, clinicians, researchers, and families affected by
Inherited Metabolic Disorders (IMDs) to exchange knowledge, innovations, and
best practices in this rapidly evolving field.
Dr.Priyanshu Mathur, Secretary, ISIEM, while addressing the media said, “ The conference will
focus on the latest advances in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of
IMDs. IMDs, a group of rare but critical genetic disorders, affect the body's
ability to metabolize nutrients into energy. If left undiagnosed or untreated,
these conditions can lead to significant developmental, intellectual, and
physical disabilities, including seizures and, in severe cases, early death.
Defects in enzymes, hormones, or other essential molecules involved in
metabolic processes are the root causes of IMDs.
Talking about discussions to be held in this three-day
conference, Dr. Lokesh Aggarwal, Treasurer, ISIEM 2024 gave some
point-wise information and said that:
• Newborn
Screening and Early Diagnosis: Exploring the importance of early detection
through nationwide screening programs to improve outcomes and prevent
irreversible damage.
• Advances
in Genetic Testing and Counseling: Examining breakthroughs in genetic
diagnostics, providing precise identification of IMDs, and offering
personalized counseling to families.
• Novel
Therapies and Treatments: Delving into cutting-edge therapeutic options, such
as enzyme replacement therapy, gene therapy, and other evolving interventions
that are transforming IMD management.
• Management
of Complications and Co-morbidities: Addressing holistic patient care,
including strategies for managing complications like organ dysfunction,
neurological issues, and long-term metabolic management.
• Patient
and Family Support and Advocacy: Empowering patients and caregivers by
strengthening networks for support, guidance, and advocacy.
Dr. Jaikishan Mittal, Chairman ISIEM said that Phenylketonuria (PKU), Galactosemia, Glycogen
Storage Disorders, Mucopolysaccharidoses, Lysosomal Storage Disorders will also
be discussed in this conference.
Dr. Manisha Goyal, Coordinator, ISIEM said that Scientific Sessions will include presentations
of cutting-edge research and clinical case studies by leading experts. Panel
Discussions and Debates will also includeinteractive discussions focusing on
current challenges, controversies, and future directions in IMD treatment and
policy.
Similarly workshops and training programs will include
hands-on sessions for healthcare professionals, offering training in genetic
counseling, diagnostic techniques, and the latest therapeutic interventions.
Objectives of ISIEM 2024
The conference aims to:
• Educate
Healthcare Professionals: Equip clinicians, geneticists, and allied healthcare
providers with the latest knowledge and skills in diagnosing and treating IMDs.
• Promote
Research and Collaboration: Provide a platform for researchers to share their
findings, engage in collaborative discussions, and explore new avenues of
research that could lead to transformative breakthroughs.
• Support
Families and Patients: Advocate for early diagnosis, better treatment access,
and comprehensive support networks for families affected by IMDs, helping them
navigate the complexities of these disorders.
