The Duolingo
English Test (DET) celebrated its 10-year milestone with a student engagement
event at Jaipur Engineering College and Research Centre (JECRC), Vidhani,
marking a decade of helping students pursue their global education ambitions.
The event brought together students, education leaders and industry
representatives to reflect on the role of English proficiency in opening doors
to international education.
The event drew
participation from 2000 students and featured discussions on the
importance of English proficiency in global education, student aspirations and
the opportunities that language skills can unlock. Through student stories, a
moderated discussion and interactive showcases, the programme underscored how
access to English proficiency testing can support learners as they prepare for
their next steps in education and beyond.
A key highlight of
the event was a student interaction featuring Anaheez Patel, who
graduated this year with an MBA from NYU, and shared her experience of
securing admission through the Duolingo English Test and pursuing her academic
ambitions in the United States. She reflected on the role of English
proficiency in navigating international education opportunities and how the
right pathways can help students take the next step towards their goals. A
panel discussion moderated by Tara Kapur, Marketing Director, Duolingo
English Test, brought together speakers to discuss global education
pathways, language proficiency, and the ambitions of students looking to expand
their horizons.
Speaking on the
milestone, Divya Rao, Marketing Lead, Duolingo English Test, India,
said, “Ten years ago, we set out to break down the barriers that stood
between talented students and world-class education. Today, the Duolingo
English Test is accepted by over 6,500 institutions worldwide, helping learners
access global education opportunities and take steps towards their ambitions.
As we enter our next decade, we remain committed to making English proficiency
testing more accessible and convenient, empowering the next generation of
learners to pursue their goals with confidence.”
The event also
celebrated student innovation through a tech showcase, where students Aryan
Kumar, Aarav Kulshrestha, Aditya Sharma and Tanmay Shrivastava presented an
app they developed. The app encourages students to explore their campus and
find different Duos, incorporating interactive word identification and
sentence-completion challenges. The showcase recognised the students’
creativity and initiative, highlighting the innovative ideas emerging from the
student community.
