New Delhi, December 04, 2019: On the eve of International Day of Disabled Persons, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, a pioneer in the field of design education for the past 30 years, organized a seminar on adaptive clothing for physically disabled people under the supervision of well-known fashion designer Varija Bajaj, who runs the Varija Life Trust.
The theme of the seminar was colour therapy, aesthetics and usage of material, construction of the outfit, aesthetics and comfort with special emphasis on unassisted usage for hand or leg amputees, whether on wheelchair or crutches (also covering old-age disability), the visually impaired, those with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and ADHD.
Ms
Rupal Dalal, Executive Director, JD Institute of Fashion Technology,
said, “I am very proud of the project that we have taken
up with Ms Varija Bajaj. Students are mentored to use reasoning and logical
thinking to create solutions that respond to accessibility and Universal
Design. It is an awareness mission to push social boundaries that regards all
people as human beings, and an attempt to give a new meaning to inclusive, and
flexible garments for a very broad definition of users.”
“JD
Institute of Fashion Technology has been associated with us for many years, and
the students have been actively involved in enlarging the concept of universal
design. It is a privilege to encourage young students to practice inclusive
design at the beginning of their design career,” said, Ms Varija Bajaj, Founder of Varija Life Trust.
