Hotel Association of India, the apex body of Indian hospitality sector welcomed the Rajasthan government’s move to accord ‘Industry Status’ to Tourism and Hospitality sector. The hospitality industry remains one of the most impacted sectors in the country. This decision is expected to enable hotels to avail benefits towards electricity tariffs, property tax, refinancing of existing debts, hassle-free loans at subsidized interest rates, taxations and simplified approval process for hotel projects and operations. It will also promote transparency, reduce costs and encourage re-investment while strengthening the sector to unlock its potential to make significant contributions to the state GDP as well as employment to support post pandemic recovery of the region.
Lauding the state government’s decision, M.P. Bezbaruah, Secretary-General, HAI, said, “Industry Status has been a long-standing demand of the sector. We welcome the decision by Rajasthan Government and thank Shri Ashok Gehlot, Chief Minister for this tourism friendly initiative, recognizing Tourism & Hospitality sector as a key catalyst for state’s economic growth. According ‘ Industry Status’ is expected to unlock the full potential of the sector, help in quicker revival, make significant contribution towards state’s GDP & employment and strengthen the industry. We hope the government monitor that the decision is effectively implemented to ensure that the benefits flow to the industry.”
HAI’s Regional Chapter in Rajasthan has been focusing on taking up relevant issues and challenges faced by the industry with the state government as well as other important stakeholders within the region. The chapter has been engaging with stakeholders by ensuring greater collaboration, building partnerships, and creating an inclusive environment for the benefit of the local economy through programs that protect and promote the interests of small, medium operators and the larger employee base of hotel industry.
